Art Song Recitals

Whether you’re seeking a traditional or non-traditional art song recital, this genre holds a special place for me. It was, after all, a friend’s senior recital in college that inspired me to change my major to music.

Often I get asked "what is my favorite style and/or language to sing". Given the uniqueness of each style and feel of each language and given that there are aspects of each that I love, that’s a tough one to answer.  For me, the art song recital is an opportunity to take an audience on a journey. In a traditional recital you’re likely to hear music of the baroque, Britten’s Abraham & Isaac (performed with countertenor or mezzo-soprano), Schubert and spirituals (all admittedly, at the top of my favorites)…in a non-traditional one, Wolf juxtaposed with Broadway or something modern and maybe some poetry reading in the mix. The possibilities are endless!
