Competitions/Jazz/Blues/Musical Theater

Competitions are a craps shoot. You roll your heart out on the stage and really don’t know what’s going to happen. In 2000 I had the good fortune of winning the Savannah Music Festival’s American Traditions Competition 2000. This changed the coarse of my artistic development forever. Until then I had focused mostly on classical art songs and arias. After the win, I reclaimed my ability and desire to sing in many different styles. That same year I toured Belgium singing jazz, blues, musical theater, spirituals and gospels and appeared on their version of The Late Show (De Laaste Show) where I sang a song by BONO! How things Change!!

Here are some treasured photos of me with legendary baritone, William Warfield. I will never forget Mr. Warfield’s words to me (and the audience) as he awarded the medal and $10,000 prize:

“We have made you master over a few things; Now step on up a little higher and become Ruler over many!”
