John Wesley Wright

             Oratorio/Opera

"The choice of tenor John Wesley Wright as the
Evangelist (St. Matthew Passion) was a godsend. Wright
has the incredible vocal ability to a present a line
that is both beautiful in tone and yet delivered with
a certain spoken quality that is perfect for
recitative. He also has a sure sense of the drama of a
phrase."

Requiems, Masses, Passions…I love them ALL! For me the goal as the Evangelist or Aria soloist is to squeeze every possible color of passion out of the line or text. I love that challenge!

A true commitment to opera takes a bit more time away from home than oratorio…my fellow singing teachers out there can appreciate that! The most recent opera adventure I’ve had was as guest this season with the Atlanta Gay Men’s Chorus in a program entitled “Divas and Dilemmas: Opera Our Way”. I performed “It Ain’t Necessarily So” and “My Man’s Gone Now” (usually sung by the character Serena in Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess)…the latter a Dream Come True!
